Shafali Dropped Why? #ShafaliVerma
Shafali Verma, who was dropped from Team India, smashes 197 and becomes the first Indian to....
Since being cut from Team India,
Shafali Verma has been having a rough time in domestic cricket. The opening
batsman was not called up for the current series against the West Indies and
was benched for the Australia tour. By scoring a lot of runs in domestic
cricket, Shafali, one of the aggressive batsmen in women's cricket, has
reminded the selectors.
In the league stage match against
Haryana, the Haryana captain broke records and made history. In the Senior
Women's One-Day Trophy league stage match, Shafali hammered 197 off 115 balls.
She hit 22 boundaries and 11 sixes in her knock. Shafali set a tremendous
record and became the Indian batter with the most sixes in a List A match,
despite missing out on a double-century by just three runs. In a women's List A
match, she became the only Indian player to hit over ten sixes in a single
innings.
It's interesting to note that she is
ranked second in Indian cricket. Early in 2024, Shafali scored nine sixes for
the North Zone women's team in the Inter-Zonal One-Day tournament. Haryana
scored a massive 389/5 on the board thanks to Shafali's knock. Sonia Mendhiya
scored 61 off 41 balls and contributed to Haryana's impressive total. But
Bengal made history by chasing down the target in 49.1 overs, so their efforts
were in vain. The record for climbing the highest chase in women's cricket
history is currently held by Bengal.
T Sarkar scored an incredible 113
runs off of 83 balls. Off 81 balls, P Bala scored an undefeated 88. Despite
being a brilliant batswoman, Shafali struggled with the ball and only managed
72 runs in her 10-over spell. No wicket was taken by her. After a strong
showing in domestic cricket, Shafali will be hoping to be called up to Team
India. Since making her debut in 2019, she has participated in 5 Test matches,
29 ODIs, and 85 T20Is.
