"Smriti Mandhana: ICC Women's ODI Cricketer of the Year Nominee"
ICC Women's ODI Cricketer of the Year:
Smriti Mandhana named as nominee
A versatile all-rounder from
Australia and top-order batsmen from South Africa, Sri Lanka, and India are
among the impressive list of nominees for the ICC Women's ODI Cricketer of the
Year award for 2024. Smriti Mandhana of India stands out among them due to her
outstanding international cricket season. Smriti Mandhana produced outstanding
performances in 2024, amassing 743 runs in 12 innings at a remarkable strike
rate of 96.99 and an average of 61.91. In addition, the left-hander contributed
one wicket, demonstrating her versatility.
With consecutive centuries against
South Africa in Bengaluru in June, Mandhana's season took off. After the ICC
Women's T20 World Cup, she scored two more hundreds, one of which came during
India's home series against New Zealand. Even though India lost the series 3-0,
she had a great year by hitting a century in the last game of the series
against Australia. In the second game of India's June home series against South
Africa, Mandhana gave an outstanding all-around performance. The groundwork for
India's 325/3 total was laid by her outstanding 136 from just 120 balls, which
included 18 fours and two sixes. Later, she helped India win by a slim margin
of four wickets by taking the vital wicket of South Africa captain Sune Luus.
